I recently saw an interview on television where someone was asked what their hopes and dreams where... their answer has bothered me all day. They said their biggest hopes and dreams were to be "normal like everyone else, have a good job, and financial security". They were "praised" for their answer, but I feel so discontent with what they said.
Now, do I really care what they have for hopes and dreams, do I know them personally, will I ever meet them or interact with them on a daily basis? No... but is this the answer that America would give to share what their hopes and dreams are?
I feel so saddened that we aspire to be "normal". God made us all individuals, our strengths, our talents, our fears, our physical make up, and yet we all look to those around us to see what "normal" should look like. Sure, having a good job is always a plus, no matter how many hours you work each week, how much you are paid, and what the goals are in your field, but if all we are is summed up in what we do, who does that make us? Financial security- some people never worry about it at all, some spend every moment worrying that they won't be able to afford something the next, some have made poor choices that result in their security being threatened, and some will never have financial "security" no matter how much they make.
I just think life is so much bigger than this. God created us to bring him honor and glory no matter our social, economic status or what we do as our job every day. He didn't create us to be "normal", He created us to be unbelievable that others would see us and we would point them to our Heavenly Father.
I am saddened by the view of some who live in the same time as me, yet it encourages me to raise our children even more vigorously in the ways of God, in the true hopes and dreams of His Kingdom. I want them to see their father and me always challenging the status quo, reaching for more than what others around us see as reality. The hopes and dreams that we have should match and be gathered from the inspiration and Word of God. I know the Creator of the Universe wouldn't settle for any of us to just be normal, financially secure, or just have a good job.
